After being spoiled by destination spa experiences and the wisdom that comes from Healing Hotels of the World, I set out to create my own healing weekend away. This time I was introducing a friend to her wellness and healing journey. No pressure.
Steps for Planning
While I had high hopes that Canyon Ranch Lenox would be available (doors reopened on July 23rd), I was delighted to find a stay at Mirbeau Plymouth. My peers in wellness travel had spoken highly of their sister properties so this seemed like a good fit. Step one – call my travel advisor. Thank you Eric Hrubant and CIRE Travel for taking stress off of me. Now planning this escape could contribute to my wellness.
Step two – review the spa menu and activities available. Mirbeau Plymouth has some amazing options that I was looking forward to trying. However, there was a healing aspect missing that we needed. Plus, with being in Phase 3 in Massachusetts it was uncertain whether classes would be happening. More research was in store.
Immediately I went to AboutTheJourney.com to search for local healers. This is an incredible resource for traveling in the States. It’s an online wellness directory to find healers, practitioners, therapists, and classes wherever you go. A woman-owned business that launched in 2019 by someone too busy and stressed to spend all that time searching for a good well-being retreat. Sadly, nothing in Plymouth yet. I guess this busy woman will have to put more time in. Eventually, I found Your Path in Sight who was able to see my friend and I for reiki sessions the day of our arrival. Perfect way to kick off our weekend!
Safety Measures
Since there were still some variables, I covered my bases by bringing two yoga mats and a plan for meditation. I was halfway through reading Wheels of Life by Anodea Judith. So I was feeling confident in the guided meditations she provides for each chakra. It seemed like a good time to test out the yoga poses she recommends, too.
To stay extra safe during this season, my friend and I booked separate rooms. I also snagged a rental car to avoid carpooling. Yes, this was different than the way we typically travel. However, I think the extra space proved beneficial not just for safety precautions but for each of us to contemplate our paths. On the drive down (and back) I listened to iWeigh podcasts because they’re empowering and I’m slightly obsessed. The nights were for solitude, reflection, journaling, reading, and more meditation.
Bring On the Healing
In those two days, we went deep. I’ve been in therapy consistently for 13+ years (it’s the gift you give yourself). This is a different experience and a great complement to therapy. This model of a curated healing weekend opens you up so subtly it can be surprising. Maybe the impact is clear immediately or it resonates shortly after. Again, I’ve become an open book over the years so I welcome any opportunity to go deep. What made it clear to me was watching the imprint it left on my friend. For her, the opening came immediately and it was beautiful. She is incredibly brave.
Since wellness and healing travel have come into my life, I hesitate to travel any other way. When you’re ready, if you have the courage to go deeper, we should talk. I work with incredible travel advisors that can design a meaningful trip to support your new path.
